What? Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology converts the sun’s energy into electricity. Solar modules or “panels” can be mounted on a roof, the side of a building, or on a ground rack. The most popular systems connect to your electric meter through what is known as “net metering.” Net metering negates the need for battery storage and uses the utility grid to sell power back to your electric company.

How does it work? PV modules are made primarily of light sensitive silicon. When paired with an appropriately sized inverter, photovoltaics convert sunlight into usable electric energy. Photovoltaic panels are sensitive to sun angle, tilt, and shading, so thoughtful system design is essential. Fixed mounted panels have no major moving parts, can reliably produce power for more than 25 years, and are virtually maintenance free.

Who? If you have access to the sun, you should consider PV. If you want to save money and protect against utility costs increases in the future, you should consider PV.  If you want to do the most you can for the environment and reduce your environmental footprint by reducing your CO2 emissions, you should consider PV.

Why? The economics have never been better for PV and the realities of antiquated infrastructure, increasing demand, and tough carbon emissions standards insure rapidly rising energy costs in our future. The 26% federal tax credit, as well as the feed-in tariff opportunities, make this an ideal time to make the investment in a photovoltaic system.
